The primary objectives of CICC (pronounced kick) are to demonstrate and test the use of Telepresence, augmented reality and multimedia communications services in a particular industrial sector - construction. These technologies will be tested in a number of complementary pilots and, through one ambitious global manufacturing pilot will be generalised to other sectors. Each pilot contributes some of the components to the "Telepresence in Construction" diagram below.
The benefits to construction, as well as other industry sectors, from the use of these
services are expected to be:
It is clear that there is a direct relationship of these project benefits to improvements in national economies and competitiveness in the global market.
The technical objective is to show that communications services that support an intuitive, spatial user interface will enable dispersed groups to work together in as similar a way as possible and as effectively as a single location team. The inherent structure of the single project model together with the mesh of associations between other information, documents and people will provide an intuitive navigation method that closely resembles physical activities in a shared office.
